A fire that crossed the border from remote Northeast Oregon into Washington has consumed 3,700 acres, and firefighters say “extreme winds” Saturday limited their ability to attack the blaze by air. The Joseph Canyon Fire was among multiple blazes that started Thursday night and Friday morning after thunderstorms passed through the region. The Washington Department of Natural Resources first noted the fire Friday morning as it spread through dry, grassy vegetation in the canyon and crossed the border from Wallowa County. It had burned 2,000 acres through late Saturday and nearly doubled in size by Sunday morning. The blaze is about 23 miles southwest of Lewiston, Idaho.
