Firefighters from Columbia and Walla Walla Counties managed to contain a roaring fire at the Eagles Lodge before it could spread to neighboring historic buildings. The blaze broke out at approximately 3:00 PM on Tuesday afternoon on Main Street. Columbia County Fire District #3 handled the call initially. When crews arrived they witnessed heavy fire in the second floor and roof of the Eagles building. Due to the number of buildings in the area and size of the fire, neighboring firefighters were called in to assist. Firefighters from Walla Walla County Fire District #4, Walla Walla County Fire District #8, College Place Fire Department, and the City of Walla Walla all came to help. Officials say the fire was contained within a couple hours. The Eagles building sustained heavy fire damage to the second floor with smoke and water damage throughout the building.
