A man and woman were found dead early Monday after a fire at a Seattle homeless camp, emergency officials said.
Crews responded to the scene, in the 3000 block of 25th Avenue South, at around 3 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke and flames at the encampment, said Kristin Tinsley of the Seattle Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they saw flames 50 feet high spewing from a structure made of pallets and tarps that was fully ablaze. The fire also was spreading to nearby bushes and trees.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire and searched other nearby encampments to make sure no one was suffering from injuries or smoke inhalation. Firefighters also searched the burned-down pallet structure and found a man and woman dead inside, Tinsley said.
