Crews from Chelan County Fire District 6, Chelan County Fire District 3, the Cashmere Fire Department and the Department of Natural Resources all helped to knock down a brush fire that began between US 2 and the Wenatchee River Wednesday around 9:30 am. Chief Phil Mosher said the fire, which burned about 1/6th of an acre just south of Pinnacles State Park, had a very fishy cause. “We believe the cause was a bird of prey that had dropped a fish that somehow encountered the power lines.” Sparks from the fish’s unfortunate journey is then thought to have started the fire. Mosher added that osprey previously used the pole for their nest. There were no injuries (to anything land-based), and firefighters made sure they regularly hydrated and took breaks due to the high temperatures.
