VIDEO: Three homes along Gig Harbor's Sunrise Beach were damaged Monday morning when they were struck by a runaway barge, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. No one was injured. It was around 7:30 a.m. when the owners of a gravel barge were heading south toward Tacoma trying to get it to anchorage, according to Petty Officer Trevor Lilburn with the U.S. Coast Guard. The barge got away from them and ran aground as it drifted into a home's dock along the 9500 block of Sunrise Beach Drive NW.' "We got up to watch the sunrise...and then we heard what almost sounded like an explosion, so we opened the blinds and saw a big brown boat," said Sierra Hudson, who was staying at the home as part of an AirBnB. "It hit the front deck and then a couple other houses down the street." The homeowner's whose house was damaged said they saw the barge come straight for the house.
