VIDEO: Two boats were destroyed and eventually sank after an explosion led to a large fire on board at Vashon Island's Quartermaster Marina Monday morning. The fire broke out just after 4 a.m. and video from a witness showed flames shooting several feet in the sky. "I heard a very loud explosion and was getting up to check it out and my son ran in, saying a boat's on fire," said witness Scott Loveless. "We called 911 then I took some pictures and video." Firefighters had to deal with icy piers to get to the scene but once they arrived they found two boats burning at the marina, according to Vashon Island Fire & Rescue. Some firefighters were able to knock down the flames while others pushed nearby boats out away from danger, but neither fire was doused until the boats eventually sank -- the first around 4:45 a.m. and the second around 6 a.m., fire officials said. A third boat did suffer some burn damage during the fire, King County Sheriff's officials said.
