VIDEO/PHOTOS: A North Carolina State Park is expected to be closed all week while emergency crews work to contain a forest fire. As of Monday morning, the fire was reportedly over 300 acres with crews frantically working to contain it. Surry County residents reported seeing smoke in the area soon after the Mount Airy Christmas parade Saturday night. By Noon on Sunday, the fire in Pilot Mountain State Park had burned an estimated 200 acres. Officials say the park is expected to remain closed all week while emergency crews work to contain the blaze. As of Sunday, officials said there were more than 30 firefighters on the mountain being aided with air support from helicopters in the area. However, officials warn, dry conditions, strong wind gusts and dry leaves on the ground are making the fight harder.
