The Cow Canyon Fire has erupted near Wenas and has forced evacuations. The fire was first reported Wednesday afternoon about 1 mile Northeast of Wenas. Since first being assessed at 50 acres it quickly exploded to 1,500 acres burned. A level 3 GO NOW evacuation order is in place for the area 1.5 miles in radius from the intersection of Malloy Road and North Wenas Road. About 50 homes are affected by the evacuation. The fire is burning in brush, grass and timber. Multiple engine crews, air resources and heavy equipment are on scene. No major injuries have been reported to residents or firefighting personnel. Air resources provided heavy attack on the fire throughout August 3. Aircraft are using local bodies of water, including Wenas Lake, to fill.
