As crews approach the third day of containing the wildland fire in Bastrop County that began as a prescribed burn, many have been wondering how exactly does an incident like this happens.
What began as a controlled burn Tuesday quickly broke control, with the Rolling Pines Fire spreading across 783 acres.
Because crews are still working on extinguishing the fire, officials do not yet have a cause for how crews lost control of the prescribed burn in the first place.
National Interagency Fire Crew's Tina Boehle told CBS Austin it could be several factors, but weather plays a role in most cases like this.
"Obviously I’m not speculating what happened in this event, but sometimes the wind direction or the wind speeds change, or the relative humidity drops," Boehle said.
