Hilary Franz, Commissioner of Public Lands, is seeking help from the public to prevent wildfires. “The recent fires on the west side of our state reminds us that fire season is not over yet," said Commissioner Franz. "This year has been one of the most destructive ever for the people of Washington. I’m urging everyone to continue their vigilance by not starting fires outdoors to keep our state and our firefighters safe.” 1,855 fires have burned 155,503 acres so far this year according to Franz. According to Franz, over 400 homes have also burned from wildfires, making this one of the most destructive fire seasons on record. Fire danger remains high in most of Washington.
