Billy Creek Fire in Idaho 49% Contained

The Billy Creek Fire, located about 20 miles south of Lewiston along the Idaho side of the Snake River, was first reported just before 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3. By 8:00 p.m. that same day, the fire had grown to over 1,500 acres. By noon on July 4, the fire was estimated at over 2,000 acres. According to the National Interagency Fire Center on Tuesday morning, the Billy Creek Fire had grown slightly over the previous 24 hours, from 3,169 acres to 3,185 acres, and was 49% contained. Officials say the fire behavior has been minimal, with mostly creeping and smoldering being noted. The nearest threatened structures are about a mile away from the fire. Northern Rockies Complex Incident Management Team 1, Incident Commander Brent Olson took command of the Billy Creek Fire at 6 a.m. on Sunday morning.
