Nebraska Forest Service officials warn that current weather conditions have created a "perfect storm" for wildfires across most of the state.
Crawford Volunteer Fire Department crews worked throughout Sunday night to contain the latest wildfire in western Nebraska. Currently, nearly the entire state is in a red flag warning.
"We have kind of the perfect storm for wildfires right now," Ben Bohall said.
Bohall is with the Nebraska Forest Service.
He said the wet spring and early summer created a lot of growth.
"What we've seen is now we've had a lack of rain. Temperatures kind of keep rising, wind picks up. That's a recipe for wildfire," Bohall said. Add to that harvest time with heavy machinery in fields.
"Right now, with the conditions we have, we're very much at alert," said Nebraska Emergency Management Preparedness and Operations Manager Brent Curtis.
