A 2-year-old child was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital after suffering injuries in a fire Thursday morning in the town of Lake Holcombe. The child, whose identity has not been released, was pulled from a burning apartment by Cornell firefighters. No condition report is available. According to the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, a fire in a second-story apartment at 27475 262nd Ave., was reported at 9:09 a.m. Thursday. Two adults and a 3-year-old and the 2-year-old were in the apartment when the fire started in the children’s bedroom. The adults were able to retrieve the 3-year-old and escape, and the male resident attempted to put the fire out from the exterior with a garden hose while the female attempted to re-enter the residence, but was unable to do so because of heavy smoke and heat. All other occupants of the building were able to escape without injury. The fire remains under investigation.
