VIDEO: No one was injured in a Monday morning fire at Lulloff True Value Hardware store in Kiel. A gasoline tank truck driver who was unloading gas at the BP station across the street from the store reported seeing smoke and flames visible out the front door of the hardware store at 4:57 a.m., Kiel Fire and Rescue Lt. Kevin Voland said. No one was inside the store at the time of the blaze, although a male occupant of an upstairs apartment was evacuated. The fire occurred prior to the store’s 6 a.m. open time. The store is at 203 Fremont St. Voland said small explosions could be heard inside the building as firefighters made their entry. He said their concern was with paint buckets inside the building. The fire was contained to the west side of the building. Smoke and water damaged the building throughout, including in the upstairs apartment, Voland said. The roof at the west end of the building collapsed.
