Scrap yard warehouse destroyed in Lafayette County fire

VIDEO: Hours after a fire was reported at a fire at a salvage yard in Lafayette County Thursday, smoke could still be seen coming from a building on the property. The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department said it is believed that something caught fire at First Capitol Salvage in the 400 block of Union Street in Belmont. The fire was reported just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday. First Capitol Salvage is a scrap metal company. Six hours later, smoke could still be seen billowing out of a warehouse on the property. A company representative said the 20,000-square-foot building was a total loss. The fire was under control at about 4:20 p.m.
