VIDEO: It’s Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 9-15) and local departments are taking time to remind homeowners how they can reduce the risk of a devastating fire. Action 2 News This Morning visited Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue to get some fire safety tips and live fire demonstrations. Division Chief Troy Haase demonstrated ways to prevent fires in your kitchen, living space, and garage. If you’re cooking, don’t wander away from the stove. Keep oven mitts handy in case you need to remove a hot pan from a flame. Don’t grab that pan too quickly–you don’t want oil to escape and make the fire worse. Haase reminds smokers to make sure all materials are out before tossing them in the trash. He also recommends people smoke outside, and warns against smoking when drowsy to avoid falling asleep with a lit cigarette.
