A Monday afternoon fire destroyed a 98-year-old barn at N101 Highway 59, in the town of Cold Spring, according to a Whitewater Fire Department news release. Estimated loss is $400,000, the release stated. All animals were out of the building when the first firefighters arrived on scene at 3:05 p.m. Ten fire departments provided assistance in battling the blaze while Whitewater police and Jefferson County deputies handled traffic control. Units were on scene for more than five hours.
