Members of the fire department need to be ready for whatever situation they might encounter, but how do you practice the skills necessary for high risk situations? The Sparta Fire Department honed those skills with a mock search and rescue in a scenario where a large fire trapped several students inside. "It's important to train because it's going to prepare you as an emergency service, so that's what we're doing this evening," said Mike Arnold, Chief of the Sparta Area Fire District. The Sparta Fire Department set up a mock fire scenario at Meadowview Middle School Monday night using simulated fires with cones and several students in need of rescue.
