VIDEO: An elderly couple had to be rescued late Thursday night after their house was surrounded by a swelling Eau Claire River. Augusta Fire Chief Ken Zich told News 18 the call came in around 8:30 Thursday night, but due to the long driveway and rising river, they couldn't get to the home off Channey Road north of Augusta. Crews stayed in touch with the couple until the phone line went dead around 11 p.m. Boats from Township Fire and Fall Creek Fire were able to get to the couple just before midnight. Chief Zich told us that the current was very strong at the house. The couple was rescued and is said to be okay.
