One dog perished in an apartment fire in Juneau on Sunday afternoon. Firefighters were dispatched at 4:30 p.m. to 214 N. Main Street for a fire in the upper apartment of a duplex. According to Juneau Fire Chief Curtis Ninmann the fire was contained to the apartment and only the room and contents of the apartment were destroyed. Ninmann said the firefighters battled the blaze for an hour and a half before extinguishing the fire. While there were no injuries to the apartment residents or firefighters, Ninmann said that one dog did perish in the fire. The origin of the fire is currently unknown. The Juneau Fire Department was assisted by Juneau EMS, Juneau police department, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and the Dodge County Emergency Response Team.
