PHOTO: South Shore firefighters battled a car fire Tuesday afternoon in the eastbound lanes of Highway 11 near Highway 31 in front of the Walgreen's, 6125 Durand Ave. South Shore Battalion Chief Jon Keiser said crews arrived on the scene at 3:36 p.m. and remained there for about 50 minutes. No injuries were reported. Mount Pleasant police said that after an initial investigation, it appears that the cause of the fire was due to mechanical issues in the engine area of the Nissan Altima. According to Sgt. Eric Relich of the Mount Pleasant Police Department, eastbound traffic was congested for about 45 minutes.
