Janesville Fire Chief Randy Banker has no doubt the city eventually will build a new fire station on the north side and add people to staff it. What remains to be seen is if Milton will chip in money and share the station with the Janesville Fire Department. “It's an area of our district where coverage needs to be enhanced,” Banker said. “Maybe there's a way we can work together and get a functional facility up there.” “The fact that both departments have been able to sit down and talk, and both departments and boards seem to be willing to work together, I think the chances are pretty good that might happen,” said Chris Lukas, Janesville Fire Department battalion chief and interim Milton fire chief. The Janesville City Council on Monday will consider signing off on an intergovernmental agreement that increases consolidation between the two neighboring fire departments.
