Two area men drowned late Sunday after their vehicle overturned in the Beaver Dam Creek. An Ashwaubenon man, 21, and a Green Bay man, 24, died despite efforts of sheriff's deputies and firefighters wading in waist-deep ice water to free them. The crash happened about 9 p.m. in the 2000 block of Memorial Drive. Witnesses said the vehicle was southbound and missed a curve, crossing lanes and leaving the road. It went over a guardrail and dropped about 30 feet into the creek, landing top-down in the creek on the east side of Memorial Drive. Brown County Sheriff's Office deputies and rescue crews from Howard Fire and County Rescue waded in but had to use a hydraulic tool to roll the vehicle upright before they could extricate both men. The two were pronounced dead at local hospitals.
