Those who heard gunshots coming from St. Albert the Great Church on Thursday, April 5 can rest assured they were not live rounds. But the active shooter scenarios being practiced by Sun Prairie police, fire and emergency medical service departments are, unfortunately, all too real. Using a training radio channel, police were notified of shots fired inside the church. The first officers on the scene do not know what to expect, as Detective Sgt. Ryan Cox pointed out. While wounded “victims” lay inside the sanctuary of the church, other “victims” run hysterically to a team of officers who are charged with searching for the shooter in the building.
