VIDEO: The Onalaska Fire Department is advancing its life-saving efforts. Both La Crosse and Onalaska Fire Departments have used a device called the "Knox Box" for the last 20 years. It's a vault-like device that hangs on doors or can be mounted on the side of buildings, containing a spare key, and allowing the departments a way into homes and businesses without having to break in. "We'll put this box on their home for them, and then we have the only key for the box so we'll open it up, lock their key in there, and then if there is a medical emergency that they may not be able to get to the door, we can get there, open the door, and help them," said Assistant Fire Chief with the Onalaska Fire Department Troy Gudie.
