A simple tour through Superior's nearly 40-year-old fire headquarters, is enough for Chief Steven Panger to point out more than a dozen places where the building needs improvement, starting with the front door. "You might have noticed you can't tell where the front door is, because you actually came in on the side door," he said. Entrances aside, Panger said there's plenty more places in need of work. "This room is jam-packed," Panger said describing his equipment store room. Panger said that's the biggest reason he's asking for a new space. "Sometimes you can't even open the door," he said. There's equipment on top of equipment, not just in this store room. The old fire hall was built before fire fighters knew they needed to wash and line dry their clothes after each use so naturally, there's nowhere to hang their uniforms.
