Ten people stuck in a malfunctioning elevator for about an hour had to use a ladder to get out of the top of the elevator in a Downtown Madison apartment building. Madison firefighters were called to the James apartments, 432 W. Gorham St., at about 11 p.m. Thursday. The James is one of the newest apartment buildings Downtown geared toward college students, first opened in 2017. The elevator car was stuck between floors. "Firefighters went upstairs to the penthouse to reset the electrical power source, but after several attempts, the system would not reset," said Madison Fire Department spokeswoman Cynthia Schuster.
