Area firefighters received some critical, life saving training Saturday morning. The Suamico Fire Department held a training burn at a house on East Deerfield Drive. The department released video on their Facebook Page Saturday of the final controlled burn down of the home. Officials say the exercise is a live drill that allowed the firefighters to practice extinguishing fires. The firefighters practiced their skills in search and rescue, ventilation and fire extinguishment. The Assistant Chief Joe Bertler says training fires provide an excellent way to prepare personnel for these situations and to perfect skills. The Village of Suamico owns the property and offered it to the department for training.
