A wise man once said an ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure. Emergency services will be able to continue their focus on prevention, instead of purely mitigation, after voters passed a referendum Tuesday allowing a 1.73 percent tax levy increase for the Kenosha police and fire departments. The increase covers the roughly $900,000 needed to hire five additional police officers and two firefighters for 2019. The change is expected to be reviewed in front of the city’s Finance Committee on Tuesday and would likely be adopted following the Nov. 27 Committee of the Whole meeting.
