The Marshfield Fire Department is looking to get creative when it comes to filling their staff. The proposed "School to Work" program will be launching in the near future, aimed at getting more young adults interested in a career in public service. “About 12 years ago it wasn’t uncommon to be on the list with potential firefighters that reached numbers in the 100’s,” Marshfield Fire Department Lieutenant Erik Jonas tells WAOW TV. “Now we are seeing it’s closer to 20 for people wanting to be in the fire service.” Details of the program are still being finalized, but Jonas says the key will be specilized training and integration courses between the students and the firefighters.
