The City Waupun is a place very different from New York City. However, this small city in eastern Wisconsin wants to bring a bit of New York history to town this summer as a way of honoring those who lost their lives on 9/11. Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa is working to bring the 9/11 Never Forget mobile exhibit to town during the city’s Celebrate Waupun festival in June. It features artifacts from the twin towers as well as visits from former FDNY firefighters who were there on 9/11 and who helped in the recovery efforts. It is something Chief DeMaa says will be impactful for everyone who comes out to see the display. “The public has a chance to interact with them, being able to ask questions, you are hearing firsthand accounts of what they saw that day, the challenges they were faced with, its really that personal component.” Chief DeMaa says The exhibition comes at a cost. The Waupun Fire Department is working to raise $15,000 to bring the exhibit to town.
