A firefighter was injured and seven residents were displaced after an apartment fire in Waunakee, said Waunakee Fire Chief Dave Kopp. Crews responded to reports of black smoke in the 400 block of O'Malley Street at 7:25 p.m. Monday. Firefighters had the fire put out within the first couple of minutes. Officials do not have a damage estimate, but said that the unit where the fire started will be uninhabitable for quite some time. Seven people are displaced from their homes and the Red Cross is assisting with the response. One firefighter suffered minor injuries during the response, but the chief says he "back and doing fine." Kopp said four ambulances responded to the fire and multiple residents were checked out by emergency medical services. There were no serious injuries.
