The South Beloit Fire Department battled a fire early Sunday morning which put a family of five out of its home and injured a firefighter. "There was heavy smoke and water damage throughout the home and considerable fire damage," said South Beloit Fire Chief Mike Davenport. "It's not a total loss but unlivable." The American Red Cross was brought in to help the family find temporary shelter. The South Beloit Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at 254 S. Bluff St. at 12:30 a.m. Sunday The firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the house. Upon entry, crews encountered heavy smoke and heat, but not much visible fire was encountered initially.
