An arsonist from Stevens Point was sentenced to three years in prison as part of a plea deal. Gary McDonald appeared in Portage County court on Wednesday. He was initially charged with attempted homicide, because people were living in the home he attempted to burn down. He set three fires inside the home, including pouring gasoline on a bed while people were sleeping. He also set a garage on fire. The people who lived at the home were able to put the fires out. In addition to jail time, McDonald will be on supervised release for 10 years. If he violates the terms of his parole, he would be incarcerated for another 3 years.
