A new mural on the wall of fire station 1 in Sun Prairie is to honor fallen firefighter Capt. Cory Barr. He was killed while responding to a gas leak that triggered an explosion in downtown Sun Prairie in July 2018.
The assistant to the fire chief, Amy Klotz, told NBC15 it took three days to draw and paint. The artist was Steven Brock, also of Sun Prairie.
Klotz said Brock has painted other murals for the fire department, but this one is special as it pays tribute to Capt. Barr. She described it as two fire hoses with gloves hugging Capt. Barr's badge.
The fire fighters raised the funds themselves in order to have the mural painted.
Koltz also said that Brock also painted the Stoughton, the remodeled fire truck that Barr used to drive.
