Crews are investigating multiple reports of people smelling natural gas on Madison's west side Tuesday, fire officials said. The Madison Fire Department said its crews, along with Madison Gas and Electric crews, are in the area of Old Sauk and High Point roads. The MFD crew was first dispatched to the intersection of North High Point Road and Wolf Street at 11:59 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a "very strong" natural gas odor outside. Initially unable to locate the odor, firefighters continued to canvass the area with Madison police, officials said. An odor of natural gas was detected around the area of High Point Road and Brule, as well as High Point and Tree Lane. Around 12:20 p.m., the Dane County 911 Communications Center received additional calls reporting the smell of natural gas in other areas along North High Point Road and Junction Road, the fire department said.
