Marathon Fire Chief Mike Tylinski said two pigs and four cows likely died Monday following a barn fire. The animals are currently missing. "Some animals were able to get out so we were able to save some but others perished," Tylinski said. The fire was reported at 12:22 p.m. Monday at a property near Soda Creek Road and Firecrown Lane in the Town of Cassel. The fire was contained around 1:30 p.m. Crews from Edgar, Marathon, and Hamburg remain at the scene. A backhoe was called in to extinguish possible hot spots. The barn was engulfed when crews arrived. It's a total loss. A garage next to the barn was also partially damaged. No one was injured as a result of the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
