A lightning strike sparked a house fire Thursday in Mequon. Lightning hit the home on Winding Hollow Road during morning thunderstorms. "It was like a bomb. It was like a bomb went off. And I knew it fell somewhere. But I didn't know it was my home," homeowner Saryu Shaah said. She and her husband said they heard a loud boom about 6 a.m. and their power immediately went out. They didn't notice the smoke or fire right away. But neighbors did and they called 911. Saryu Shaah and her husband were in their basement checking their circuit breaker when first responders arrived. "Police was banging and we were in the basement. Nothing was working, so they couldn't ring the doorbell. They were about to break the door when I suddenly heard the big loud sound, so I ran upstairs and they said, 'no shoes, nothing. Just run. Run outside," she said.
