A lot has happened to firefighter Alexis Metko in the 2½ years since she fell headfirst from a ladder during an exercise at Fox Valley Technical College's Public Safety Training Center in Greenville.Metko, 32, has sufficiently recovered from her injuries, which included fractures to her skull, femur and wrist and lacerations to her liver and spleen.
She got married.
She started a full-time job as an estimator at The Boldt Company.
She gave birth to a son on the day her husband, Jesse Metko, came home from military deployment in Syria.
And she returned to the scene of her fall at FVTC and conquered the ladder test that had tripped her up and nearly ended her life. She's now certified as a Firefighter 1 in Wisconsin and an official member of the Kimberly Fire Department. "It was a tall order to make sure I physically got there, and mentally, frankly," Metko told The Post-Crescent.
