On Monday evening, multiple fire crews responded to reports of a house fire in the City of Schofield.
The single-family home is located on the corner of Robert Street and Spring Street, near Mayoral Park. No people or pets were in the building at the time of the fire.
"The windows of the home were open when we arrived," said Deputy Chief Rob Bowen with the Riverside Fire District. "The open window allowed the oxygen from outside to feed the fire. Luckily our crews got here quickly and contained the fire."
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but it is believed to have started in the back of the house. Firefighter officials tell NewsChannel 7 the home is a total loss and the Red Cross is helping the family impacted.
Everest Metro Police, Riverside Fire District and the Mosinee Fire Department all assisted with the fire along with several others.
