A man is recovering after falling an estimated 40 feet from Grandad Bluff on Monday night. Members of the La Crosse Fire Department were able to rescue him.
Months of training and planning go into bluff rescues. The steep and uneven terrain make things difficult for emergency crews, but their experience helps save lives.
"It's rewarding to watch all the training that you put the time in and effort into actually work," said Todd Adams, training captain with the La Crosse Fire Department. After a person falls from a cliff, Adams said the number one problem is getting to them.
"Where are they?" Adams said. "The biggest thing is locating them right away."
With help from the La Crosse Police Department and a friend of the fallen person, they found the victim and crews went to work.
