Multiple emergency departments responded Monday to a fire at The Springs – Your United Methodist Community, 2820 Plover Springs Drive. Crews arrived at the church around 11 a.m., Plover Deputy Fire Chief Ken Voss said. Light smoke was showing when they arrived, he said, but heavy smoke and flames developed shortly after. Voss said the cause of the fire is not yet known, but he expects the building will be a "total loss." Crews focused on extinguishing flames near the attic of the church. No one was in the building at the time of the fire and all the doors were locked when crews arrived, he said. Anton Anday said he was driving by the church Monday when he saw smoke coming from the building. He said he turned his car around and called 911, then checked all of the exterior doors. The Plover Fire Department, Plover Police Department, Portage County ambulance, Stevens Point Fire Department, Park Ridge Fire Department, Stockton Fire Department and Wisconsin Public Service assisted at the scene.
