Osseo community members made plans to form an emergency event community support group.
Locals and business owners in Osseo held a pre-planning meeting at the Osseo Rural Fire Department where they discussed a way for volunteers to help in the event of an emergency.
With the opening of the new Fire Station and emergency events, such as the forty car pile-up on I-94 in February, the Fire Department is looking for community members to offer a helping hand.
Firefighters said they are not trying to break the mold at the meeting, but rather to provide an opportunity for the community members to help their neighbors where they can.
“These are people that want to help where they can. Some of them may be retired; some may have jobs that don't allow them to be a fireman, but they want to help their community where they can, and we are trying to give them that opportunity where they can volunteer and make a difference," said Chief of Osseo Rural Fire District Nels Gunderson.
