A firefighter from the Shawano Area Fire Department rescued a dog that had fallen through the ice Friday afternoon. The rescue happened about 1 p.m. in the Shawano Channel in the 400 block of West First Street, Fire Chief Shawn Borlace said. The channel connects the Wolf River to Shawano Lake. The rescue was captured on video and posted to the Facebook page Distinct Aerial Shotz. The video shows the dog in the water near the edge of the ice, his owner watching nervously from a dock, calling out to her dog as the firefighter makes his way out on to the ice with a rescue boat. The firefighter reaches into the water to try to grab the dog, but the ice breaks and he falls in as well. He grabs on to the dog and is able to lift him out of the water. The dog then shakes himself off and wanders back to shore before being reunited with his owner.
