1 dead in Superior house explosion, cause of blast under investigation

One person died and a house was destroyed in an explosion and fire Sunday morning in Superior, Wisconsin. According to Superior Police Department, a man believed to be the only person inside the home died in the explosion and fire at 2219 N. 22nd St. The body was found inside after the flames were extinguished. The release notes that the explosion's cause is under investigation, but it appears to be unintentional. The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is assisting the investigation to determine the cause of the explosion, which happened around 10:50 a.m. The identity of the victim is expected to be released at a later date. By the time Superior fire and police departments arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames. Mayo Ambulance was also involved in the initial response to the explosion.
