A wild fire that burned approximately 40 acres of wooded land in Minocqua was put out by emergency crews Tuesday afternoon. The fire was burning about two miles west of Hwy 51 on Blue Lake Rd. near the intersection of Hahn Rd. The blaze was spotted by a DNR patrol plane shortly before noon, and the Minocqua Fire Department was dispatched to the scene shortly after. The DNR contained the fire by using heavy machinery to dig a trench around the perimeter, while other responding agencies "mopped up" the remaining flames. The Minocqua Fire Department split incident command with the DNR and deployed some units to Hahn Rd. for structure protection. As many as four homes on Hahn Rd. and one home on Blue Lake Rd. were threatened before the fire was contained. People in those homes were told to evacuate while the fire was being put out. No one was hurt. Minocqua's Fire Chief Andy Petrowski estimates as little at 10,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the flames. All of that water was pumped in from Mercer Lake Creek and the Tomahawk River.
