Baraboo has a new assistant fire chief, but he’s a familiar face who values consistency and giving back to the community in any way — be it large or small.
Mark Willer said when firefighters respond to house fires, they focus on fire suppression, but welcome any chance to save even just one priceless item.
Delivering some good news with the bad can help soften the blow of losing almost everything. Protecting and serving friends, family members, neighbors, tourists and all other community members during any type of emergency is the Baraboo Fire Department’s mission, he said.
“I don’t take that responsibility lightly,” Willer said. “We’re there; we train hard to protect anyone that’s in the area.”
Willer, formerly an EMT and later a fire department lieutenant, on Wednesday began serving in his new role as assistant fire chief of training for the Baraboo Fire Department.
