An 82-year-old woman died in a late night fire on Thanksgiving that also sent her 91-year-old husband to the hospital, according to the Dodge Co. Sheriff's Office. Her family told NBC15 her name was Eleanor "Ellie" Neumann. Her husband, Ruben, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the fire and was taken to Marshfield Medical Center.
"She is probably one of the sweetest ladies I have ever known. We would be out with the dogs she would come over and say 'hi,' One of the Neumann's neighbors, Mathew Breselow explained. "She is going to be missed I mean she really is a staple in our community.
The Sheriff's Office says emergency crews responded to their home, at N7295 Watercress Lane, on the Westford and Calumus town line, near Beaver Dam, around 10:20 p.m. When they arrived, crews could see heavy smoke coming from the first floor and some rushed in to save Eleanor.
