Firefighters responded to a gas leak in Belleville Tuesday night. According to Dane County dispatch, We Energies called at 10:04 p.m. to report a gas main break underground at the intersection of River Street and 3rd Avenue. Officials said an uprooted tree caused the leak as storms started to move through the area at around 9 p.m. First responders went door-to-door to evacuate people in the affected area. The gas was turned off just after 11 p.m. and most EMS were sent home. As of 11:30 p.m. some firefighters are still at the scene. The National Weather Service says Belleville will be one of the areas they survey on Wednesday to determine if the storm damage was caused by a tornado.
