On the heels of news surrounding staffing issues at the Menomonee Falls, Hales Corners and North Shore fire departments, another municipality is facing similar issues.
The international Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 4724 posted on Facebook on Sept. 28 alleging ongoing staffing problems at the town of Brookfield Fire Department. The union alleged that the department runs understaffed and at times has been without critical positions for more than a year.
Union President Jason Shields outlined the most recent scheduling issue in a telephone interview Oct. 1. Shields said the scheduling manager notified him a week before Sept. 28 that there were vacancies in the schedule.
A little more than 48 hours in advance, he was again notified. "The town of Brookfield Fire Department chief was told there would be vacancies in the schedule, including paramedic positions," Shields said.
